How can we help to ensure the transition to net zero emissions and a low carbon economy in our country, city, community or workplace is a Just Transition?
We all know the importance of meeting the Paris Agreement’s targets, and the urgency around limiting global warming to 1.5 C. The increasing number of plans for transitioning to net zero emissions and a low carbon economy is encouraging, but not all planning processes think about or involve those directly impacted by the transition – the workers and their communities.
Join the Canadian Labour Congress and ITUC’s Just Transition Centre at COP 24 to meet with unions, allies and stakeholders who are working within and with the labour movement to deliver inclusive Just Transition on the ground. You will hear concrete examples of lessons learned, finding solutions to challenges, and success achieved through collaboration.
Moderated by General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation Sharan Burrow, speakers from Canada, New Zealand, Nigeria, the city of Oslo, the International Transport Workers' Federation and business, will share their stories on Just Transition in a facilitated dialogue setting.
Samantha Smith, director of the Just Transition Centre, will talk about the work that the Centre is doing to support the inclusion of labour around the planning tables in our countries, communities and workplaces.
